Our Approach to Formation

Seed Deep is not a program for self-improvement.
It is a space for spiritual formation.

That means we are not primarily focused on helping you become a better version of yourself as you currently understand yourself.
We are interested in something deeper:

Who are you, as God knows you to be?

We believe that transformation does not begin with striving, but with surrender—
with allowing our lives, stories, wounds, and identities to be gently brought into the presence of Christ and reshaped there.

This work is slow.
It is often hidden.
And it is profoundly personal.

At the same time, it is not without direction.

Seed Deep is rooted in a historic Christian vision of the human person and the belief that our identity is ultimately received in Christ—not constructed, achieved, or self-defined.

Because of this, our approach to formation may feel different from other spaces of healing or personal growth.

The questions below are offered to help you discern whether this is the right place for your journey.

Our Approach to Formation

What do you mean by “spiritual formation”?

1

Spiritual formation is the lifelong process of being shaped into the likeness of Christ.

In Seed Deep, this includes:

  • healing what has been wounded

  • bringing false identities into the light

  • renewing the mind and imagination

  • learning to live from a place of belovedness rather than striving

This is not behavior modification.
It is transformation at the level of identity.

What is your understanding of identity?

2

We believe that our deepest identity is not something we create, but something we receive through relationship with God and community.

According to the Christian story, we are created in the image of God and invited to find our truest self in union with Christ. This identity is not fragile or shifting, but given, stable, and rooted in God’s love.

Much of the work of formation, then, is a process of gently uncovering where we have come to define ourselves apart from this truth, and allowing those places to be healed and reoriented.

What theological framework shapes Seed Deep?

3

Seed Deep is grounded in the historic Christian understanding of Scripture and the human person.

This includes the belief that:

  • we are created in the image of God

  • our lives are held within a meaningful, created order

  • and our identity is ultimately fulfilled in Christ

We approach formation within this framework, trusting that God is both truthful and good, and that His design is not restrictive, but life-giving.

No. Formation cannot be forced.

However, Seed Deep is not a neutral space. It is a directional one.

You will be invited—through teaching, prayer, reflection, and community—into a particular vision of life in Christ. You are always free to engage, wrestle, or step back, but the direction of the work remains consistent.

Seed Deep is a space of deep care, respect, and compassion.

At the same time, it is not designed to hold every possible understanding of identity or spirituality.

Because our formation work is rooted in a specific Christian vision of the human person, some individuals may find that this space does not align with their current beliefs, identity, or desired direction of growth.

We honor each person’s journey and encourage thoughtful discernment about whether Seed Deep is the right fit.

We recognize that questions of identity—especially around gender and sexuality—are deeply personal and often connected to real pain, longing, and complexity.

Our work is rooted in a Christian understanding of the human person as created in the image of God as male and female, and we approach identity formation within that framework.

This means that Seed Deep is not a space for exploring or affirming alternative frameworks of identity.

However, we are committed to treating every person with dignity, gentleness, and respect, and we trust that God meets each of us personally in our places of need and longing.

You are welcome to come as someone who is seeking.

You do not need to have everything figured out. In fact, many women arrive in a place of uncertainty, disorientation, or transition.

What matters most is your openness to encountering God and your willingness to engage the process of formation with honesty.

At the same time, it is important to understand the direction of this space, so that you can discern whether it is supportive of where you feel called to grow.

Seed Deep may be a good fit if:

  • You are longing for deeper healing and transformation, not just insight

  • You are open to grounding your identity in Christ

  • You desire a slower, more contemplative approach to growth

  • You are willing to engage a formation process shaped by historic Christian faith

It may not be the right fit if:

  • You are looking for a spiritually neutral space

  • You want to explore identity apart from a Christian framework

  • Or you are seeking affirmation of a direction that differs from this vision

Discernment is part of the process. You are invited to listen carefully to your own heart as you consider this space.
